Belastingdienst in the Netherlands - what it is

Belastingdienst in the Netherlands is, in simplest terms, the Polish equivalent of the tax office; the place where Dutch taxpayers settle their taxes. The Belastingdienst is responsible, among other things, for supervising taxes in the Netherlands or assigning people working in the Netherlands a BSN (Burgerservicenummer) number, which is necessary if you want to apply for a refund of overpaid tax or any tax relief in the Netherlands. In what other cases can you deal with the Belastingdienst?

-Settlement of mandatory income tax from the Netherlands.

-Claiming various types of allowances and benefits in the Netherlands.

-Written summons to file a tax return.

-Paying road tax in the Netherlands.

Belastingdienst in the Netherlands - how it works.

The day-to-day operation of the tax office in the Netherlands Belastingdienst looks a little different than, for example, in Romania, Poland or Bulgaria. The Dutch office, before fining a taxpayer for at least missing a tax return deadline, first sends a minimum of one written summons regarding the obligation to pay. Such a letter cannot be ignored, but only to settle the financial arrears specified in it as soon as possible.

Belastingdienst in the Netherlands - Zorgtoeslag

For people with low income in the Netherlands, the Belastingdienst tax office, or more precisely, the Toeslagen office cell, can pay the so-called Zorgtoeslag, which is a subsidy for compulsory health insurance in the Netherlands. Such a subsidy can be claimed when the Dutch taxpayer's annual income is no more than €30,000. The safest method of applying for the insurance subsidy in the Netherlands is to apply online, because when applying by the traditional method, on paper, the Belastingdienst does not send any confirmation of receipt of such a letter.

Belastingdienst - separation allowance in the Netherlands

The main purpose of paying this type of tax relief is the desire to support those earning lower monetary amounts and at the same time having a dependent fiscal partner. When applying for the separation allowance from the Netherlands, remember to file two separate tax returns - for yourself and your fiscal partner. You have to wait from 2 to 12 months for a decision on whether the Belastingdienst will grant your application for separation pay.

Belastingdienst - deadlines for payment of tax refunds from the Netherlands

Applications for refunds of overpaid tax in the Netherlands are submitted between January 1 and March 31. Assuming that all documents are filled out correctly, no attachments are missing and they reach the Belastingdienst on time, the office has until the last day of June to pay out the entire amount of overpaid tax. If the documents are submitted after the deadline, Belastingdienst will still pay us the money, but you will have to wait a little longer - from 6 months to even 3 years. As a rule, however, money from tax refunds from the Netherlands appear in taxpayers' accounts after 3 or 4 months.

Belastingdienst - family allowance from the Netherlands

Only those who are entitled to child allowance in the Netherlands can apply for a child allowance in the Netherlands . All documents and a properly completed application for child allowance must be submitted to the Dutch tax authority Belastingdienst. However, the payment of child benefits in the Netherlands is not handled by the Belastingdienst, but by a specially established institution for the settlement of benefits of taxpayers receiving benefits from other European countries - the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB).
